Taiwan margin maintenance — a market-wide account statistic

Two misreadings dominate this page: that a number tells you when a position gets liquidated, and that a low reading marks a turn. This page refuses both. First, this is a market-level account-level aggregate and not a per-stock series; maintenance is computed on the whole account, so an investor's other collateral sits in the same denominator. Second, whether forced selling happens depends on each broker's rules, the call notice and the cure window, none of which is public, so we do not infer who is exposed. And claiming a low reading "is the bottom" is something we neither do nor endorse, because no reliable mechanical link exists between leverage stress and price turns.

Fields and basis

The response returns the data date, the market-wide account maintenance statistic, its coverage and its computation basis. Every row is marked as a whole-account aggregate, not per-name or per-account detail, and not any individual investor's ratio.

The series is not filled or smoothed. Non-trading days and un-updated dates return undetermined with the missing day named.

Why it is not a per-holding liquidation level

The denominator is the whole account's collateral value and the numerator is the margin loan, so the same stock in two different accounts yields different maintenance ratios because of other holdings and other loans. A market statistic therefore cannot imply a liquidation price for any name.

Beyond arithmetic there is process: call notices, cure windows, voluntary de-leveraging and each broker's own differentiated rules. None of that is public, so any claim to compute when a specific holding gets sold is supplying data that does not exist.

No contrarian claim

The link between leverage stress and prices is unstable: the same reading under different market structure, rates and participant mix has been followed by very different outcomes. We do not treat maintenance as a timing tool and emit no trading signal.

This is market-level context and not a per-stock trigger. We give you the series and its basis, not an actionable threshold.

What this page must not be used for

No inference about who gets liquidated, no lists, no rankings, no timing, no price targets. Pushing a market-wide statistic down onto one position ignores both whole-account arithmetic and broker-specific rules.

The right use is as a starting question: where does the statistic sit against its own history, has the basis changed recently, and where do you check your real ratio? Only your broker answers the last one.
